Here are some basic pointers about staying safe and using cellphones wisely:

The best protection? Be aware of what you discuss on your cell phone. Remember that it acts as a handheld broadcast station. Don’t give out your credit card number or other sensitive or confidential information; don’t say anything you wouldn’t say on broadcast radio or TV.
Some of that can actually be true of cordless phones, or at least it used to. I regularly heard my neighbor's conversations some years ago because my corded phone always picked up their cordless. I don't think they ever knew.
The hospital that I had my son in used the cellphone/walkie talkies. My nurse got a call from someone accidentally. Apparently there numbers crossed or something. She messed with him a bit though. It was funny.
I get tickeled sometimes at what people will say on a cell phone. You can't help but wonder if they realize other people are listening.
I remember those days when cell phones just started to hit the market. That time those having the phone used to talk in "Yes" or "No" or keep their conversation at a minimum.
They have definitely come a long way. I know quite a few people who don't even have a landline phone anymore. I am sure all too many times people take the convenience of their cell phones for granted and don't think twice about divulging that information over them.
I think people get pretty cavalier about using their cell phones and giving out information. The new craze is for using your cell to play online poker. That would make me very nervous if you play for much at all.
It sounds scary that you're not even safe sharing information on cellphones now. Landlines I could understand...I guess with cellphones it's easier because you can pick up through the signal?
Landlines are supposidly much more secure because it is so much harder to 'tap' them. Picking up cell signals is much easier with less hardware required.
Haven't you ever gotten a crossed signal and heard another conversation? Oh, I have lol.
I've gotten spam texts on my phone before and I am not sure where they come from but I never give in to them. I would never be crazy enough to give information out anywhere that is not secure.
