Default Data from used cell phone

I have heard that its very easy to gather personnal data from our used cell phones . I am worried since i store lot of data in my cell phone and even if i delete it someone can still have access to it. Is there noway to save our data for ever.

Exactly how much data is actually retained when a phone is minus a sim chip? I'd be curious to know.

Do they take the sim chips out of the phones when they dispose of them in the US? I think we are different here, since we can't take our phones with us to different carriers. We have to get new phones, which would make the old phones more prone to having too much information in them.

Smile Re: Data from used cell phone

The point i am trying to make is that the data we delete form our sim still stays in our cell phones. So it has nothing to do with sim as it is stored in the cell phones.

See Me i am sure there are ways to put other carriers sim in the cell phones.... All one neeed to do is crack the code which i am sure you know where to get it done from .Though its illegal everyone does so...... Don't they

I don't think taking off the sim card off solves the problem. The data is also stored in the phone itself. You have to either delete the data yourself or there is a reset button I believe which might be helpful.

nik 909 - that's not what i mean. In the US - we don't use sim chips, so I don't even think they are in the phone.... I know that most other countries actually have the removeable chip that you can just move from phone to phone. Here in the US, that doesn't happen.

In case if one plans to sell off the phone then it might be possible to remove the data and then sell it. The problem comes when the phone is either pickpocketed or lost somewhere.

The best way to remove the data in your phone is to manually delete them. I think you could show much care to your private information to spend just a couple of minutes to make sure no information about you could be in your phone.

I live in the US, and I have had phones with removable SIM chips for well over 3 years now. I am not sure what carrier you have, but I thought most of them had these.

All phones have SIM chips ...just like they have other codes that are used worldwide. Doesn't matter what country you're in. If you've not seen your SIM card, it's just because the carrier puts it in for you and you didn't have to!

I don't ever see a chip in my phone so that sort of worries me. Luckily I still have my old one and only I get to see what's on it.
