Default Upgrading an old laptop...

I'm not sure what all I need to upgrade...I believe it runs on Windows 98.
I wanted to upgrade to XP but it told me I'd need more memory.
It's an IBM about 10 years old.
Does anyone know what software/hardware I need to get?

Get a new laptop! By the time you upgrade to XP, add memory and all that ..you could go out and buy an inexpensive new one running Vista. I think there's shelf life on computers too lol.
