How about Refurbished laptops?
They are a lot cheaper (well dur)
But are they reliable? I don't want to for anything that's going to break down easily.
Personal experiences?

How about Refurbished laptops?
Personal experiences, no problem, as long as you buy a good brand in the first place...
All that the manufacturers do is replace the components that need replacing (i.e. that are really outdated or that don't work) and give it a new coat of paint...but to save costs they don't usually replace evrything...so the original components probably have a higher chance of going wrong, yet there are LOADS of powerdellers on eBay that sell refurbished items (for example, things like internet routers) that have absolutely no problems, and don't go wrong any less than the original item - and cost a fraction of the price!
I bought a laptop, as far as I could tell, they simply put a new screen in (the seals everywhere else were intact) and it continues to work 2 years later (longer than expected).
I'm all up for them!

I got my Thinkpad T30 on ebay for less than half the price it would've been when new. As far as I can tell it was never touched before I got it. I've had it for a year now with no problems whatsoever.

How about Refurbished laptops?
Getting laptops online is both good and bad...good because you can get a cheap one, and if youre lucky it would be good too, but it can be bad because youre always taking a risk buying on ebay...thats why i rarely buy electronics online. I usually have to physically look at something before purchasing it. On another note, my boss bought a really good Compaq online, and I like it alot.

thats true i dont really trust buying stuff online too much especially anything too expensive. i have to be able to feel it and touch it to make sure everything is good and that i wanna walk out of the store with it.

Re: How about Refurbished laptops?
Electronics like laptops, computers, I don't think it is best to buy from online auctions like eBay (though I have nothing against eBay as I also get the best deals out there) because of the very reason that you can't really scrutinize the item. Also, if it entails items with high prices, I don't transact it thru online, just to be safe.

Re: How about Refurbished laptops?
My only experience with a refurbished laptop was a horror story, so I would NEVER recommend anyone go that route.
No way no how.

Re: How about Refurbished laptops?
I definitely would not get a refurbished laptops as I have also heard horror stories. You would likely end up spending more money than if you had just purchased a new one. My suggestion is shop around for one that's a reasonable price and NEW.

Re: How about Refurbished laptops?
Mine's refurbished and purchased through the manufacturer. The only problem is one that is a general problem with the model, not the refurbishing.

Re: How about Refurbished laptops?
You run the risk of a refurbished one because of the warrantly. Generally, there is none, or it is very limited. It's a lot like a used car. Some of them work wonderful for the owners and others are lemos. There's not much more to it than that.

I would not buy one refurbished. I would be to afraid of getting ripped off. I would hate to be without my laptop.

Re: How about Refurbished laptops?
I bought a dell refurb and it's only lasted 3 months before acting up - though they do have a year warranty I'll be able to see if they make good on it *fingers crossed* next time I'm sure I'll buy new just easier that way
