Well I have HP 17" laptop and when I bought that I was also looking for a gaming laptop as well. It performs really well with games like Doom 3 and Battlefield 2 with it's 128mb Mobility Radeon X600 graphics card, however the only problem I've found with it is it can be slow loading because it only has 4200rpm hard drive, so I'd definately recommend a 7200rpm one for gaming, but I can't say I can recommend any, the ones I have heard to be are the Dell XPS's, maybe check them out?

I'm not surprised you don't want alienware, I know I wouldn't, their ridiculously expensive for what they are.

I was thinking about getting an HP and using aftermarket parts to build it..I was even considering putting a P4Mobile for my current laptop, and somehow getting a better video processor...I kinda gave up after I opened up my laptop and had no idea what was where...-_-

You have to look at what kind of graphic card it has, im not sure if there are GForce video cards for laptops, but i think GForce is the best when it comes to gaming.

Yes indeed, get the latest Gforce and you'll propably have a better graphics card than the game is designed for

I was thinking that Mac would probably be best for gaming since it's the best for graphic design - but I got to thinking that there might not be as many games available for one.

I've had the best experiences with HP, never any problems like some other brands (and I've had my share of problems).

In gamings for me much better to use desktop computers, because laptops are sensitive type of thing. Where desktop you can upgrade the Memories, VGA's, you can add other specs. easily and especially with a low cost, while laptops you must buy the parts compatible to the unit and much higher cost, laptops are for business used only not for gamings.
