Default Paranoid about PDA's

I have a recurring nightmare that just as soon as I put all my important information on anything electronic it's going to go down or get stolen and I will be lost forever. Does anyone else have this problem?

Maybe that's why I do all my work long hand before ever moving it onto the computer screeen.

don't worry, kelkat, you're not being paranoid. a lot of people have lost their important documents just because they relied on one hard drive. to save time, why don't you save them in your e-mail account? you can get a pretty big file size when you use gmail. or you can opt to save them in a flash disk or rewritable CD.

Indeed, it's a very valid concern - take care of all of your information.

I know backup would help me retreive any information - but what about all that information that I've laid out for the bad guys to use. Carrying around my life in a pocket just seems like an easy target!

Personally I'm keeping an eye out for encryption options - I left my laptop on a train earlier this year, and although I recovered it, I had left a USB stick containing all my logins in it. Would have been very time-consuming to redo every single password!

So what happened with the USB stick anyway?

I know it's silly to be this way. I'm not rich. I'm not famous. What would some poor thief (and he would be poor if he robbed me) want with my computer babble?

He would want your login information so you might want to store that kind of thing on paper.

What would a theif do with my login information? I don't even know what to do with it all half of the time.

I think the PDA is a ways off for me - at least for today.

It would be cool if the data could self-destruct once reported stolen. Then we wouldn't have to worry.

Some cell phone makers have managed a setup that allows someone, can't remember if it's the service provider or maker, to do a remote data wipe.

Oh how cool! I was joking, but I was hoping someone would come back and say it was possible. It would certainly calm my fears.
